One of the many services we offer here at Aaron-Elliott Locksmiths is rekeying. As the name suggests, rekeying is a process of pairing a lock with a different key. To do this, our experts will modify the tumblers in your lock to match the teeth of the new key instead of the old one.
Now that you know what rekeying is, we will go over a few situations in which it’s wise to make use of this service.
- When Moving In – We strongly encourage you to schedule rekeying services for your new home or business as soon as possible after you move in. While the previous tenants are required to hand over the keys, there’s no guarantee they accounted for all the copies in existence. If you want to be 100% sure no one will be able to gain unauthorized access to your building, you should get your locks rekeyed.
- After Losing Your Keys – As we alluded to above, it’s also a good idea to use rekeying services whenever you lose your keys (lose them permanently, that is—if you find the key later the same day there’s nothing to worry about). If there is a copy of the key you can’t account for, the best way to be sure no one uses it to enter your building is to rekey the locks.
- After Changing Staff – Lastly, it’s also a good idea to get your locks rekeyed whenever you change staff—for example, if you hire a new nanny or cleaning service. These types of workers are often given their own keys to their employer’s property to make it easier to come and go, so it’s wise to pair your locks with a new key every time you change staff.
